IVF Kasih (Mini IVF) Part 1

Here is the story of our first attempt of mini IVF at IVF Kasih. What is mini IVF? Mini IVF is a less invasive, less hassle and a minimal stimulation method some couple opt for to reduce the stress of going through the full ivf. And in terms of the price it cost half the actual price. I won't go into the details too much as you can easily google :) With IVF Kasih in Seksyen 13, Shah Alam it cost us RM 8,800. Any test that they require you to do before the ivf cycle begins such as hormone test, HIV test and the medication needed if you successfully become pregnant will not be part of the package. All in all the cost for us was probably about RM 8,800 + additional RM 1,500.

We begin with scanning on CD2, at this point, I had developed a cysts of my right ovaries. None whatsoever before. Yes, these things happened. Sabar. Then it appears that there were no follicles on my left side. Hence, the doc said, if that is the case, there is a risk that if you start the mini ivf this cycle, doc will only be able to collect the eggs on the right side but they have to be really careful to not puncture the cysts and risking the possibility of the eggs to be contaminated and not survived.

At this point I was determined to just do it. We have been delaying this process for the past 2 cycles because it was only after raya that the doc discover I had about 4 cm of cysts. The doc suggested to have surgery and remove it prior to ivf but i hesitated to do the surgery because of the risk of scarring and the risk of you to bleed excessively and one of your ovaries ended up permanently removed. It happened to a friend of mine, that was why I was a bit paranoid.

I teared up a bit when I spoke to my mom and hubby as to what to do next. I also texted my uncle who was also a fertility specialist to ask his opinion. He told to proceed without the surgery and not to worry too much.

CD9 we went to scan. As expected, no follicles were developing on the left side. I had 3 on the right side plus the cysts that appeared to be shrinking just a tiny bit but doc said that could be because the follicles were getting bigger that it kind of squeeze the cysts.

In terms of the size, there were good enough to be extracted. Will they be able to extract all 3, that is another question, will all 3 be good enough for fertilization, will it continue to develop before it can be transferred? So many uncertainties. Something that you need to prepare mentally, physically and emotionally. The doc then gave me more medication to prepare for egg retrieval. This include the trigger shot and few other medications. Don't get too overwhelmed by this. Bare in mind that this is normal. If you opt for the full IVF, there will be more medication required. Doc said we should be able to retrieve the egg CD12 that they will make the arrangement with Sunfert Bangsar. Retrieving, fertilization and transfer of embryos are done in Sunfert not at IVF Kasih. It was not until later that day that I received a call from IVF Kasih saying that Sunfert Bangsar was fully book for that day that we had to travel to their other branch in Ipoh.

So off we went to Ipoh on CD11 to perform the procedure next morning. It was scary to enter the cold room. I then met Dr Tham for the first time. It was a blessing to find out how nice he was and how he managed to make me feel super calm and relax. I was told that he was able to extract the eggs and the cysts during this procedure. At this point, redha was the only thing I can think off and pray it will be okay. Procedure was over very quickly. I was sedated so I could not remember much. The nurse said, doc managed to get all 3 eggs out plus the cysts that turned out to be just liquid so it was harmless. Alhamdulillah. I told myself, maybe it was a blessing that we needed to travel all the way to Ipoh. At least, regardless of the outcome of this IVF, i know i am cysts free. Although, it can always come back. Which is why if you can don't delay to start your next IVF cycle should you need to repeat again.

CD15 was the day of transfer. Yes, we had to drive to Ipoh again. This time, to hear the result of the eggs retrieved. Technically, if they say you are schedule to come to Ipoh, then you need not to worry that much, but in your head, you are wondering, how many many made it etc. etc. They didn't tell much on the phone.

To be continued...............

IVF Kasih (Mini IVF) Part 2

As we arrived in Ipoh, we met the embryologist who told us that all 3 eggs were able to be fertilized. 2 eggs continue to steadily grow while the 3 rd did not. The 2 little fertilized eggs were in good condition and ready to be transferred. I remember the embryologist explained about the grade and the development of the eggs, I just could not recall the exact word she said. I think she said one was in an excellent condition while the other was fairly good. At that point I was just happy to hear that we have 2 embryos and the transfer can be done that day.   Long story short, the transfer was done. It was quick and painless but it was nerve wrecking to be in that position. The room was so cold because of the strong air condition. Dr Tham made me feel more relax. He even turned on the zikir and doa from youtube for me during the procedure. It reaaaallly made me feel more calm throughout the whole process. Hubsy was not allowed to go in to accompany me. Then I had to lay d...

A little update

A little update. After failing to conceive twice through IUI, we have decided to proceed with IVF at IVF Kasih. We did our check ups just before Ramadhan and the Doctor said when we are ready we can give the clinic a call come cycle day 1. I am planning to document and share it in the blog as we take this new journey together. We always hope for the best but its all up to the Almighty if this will be a success. I do hope that it will be a smooth one. IVF Kasih offers a suppose to be less invasive, low stimulation form of IVF where they say it will be more natural, less visit to the hospital (=less stress), less amount of medication to be consumed and mostly because the cost is way cheaper than regular IVF aka mini IVF. I did the research, cheaper does not mean that it won't work. Although it seems to have lower probability to succeed, 40% vs 30% for women age 35 below, it is still a good number. If money is not an issue, I probably would still go for mini IVF and see how it goe...
