On Monday 14.03.2016, Hubby and I went for HSG test at Ramsay Sime Darby Medical Centre. Alhamdulillah, the result came back positive :) We came in at about 8.45 am, they called me in at about 9.15am, procedures started at 9.30am and ended by 10am. The whole process of inserting and injecting only lasted for 2-3 minutes but the whole process of waiting for them to set up the whole area, listening to some explanation given by the nurse, waiting for the doctor to arrive and etc etc were the part that brought some gelabah feeling because in my head I just wanted it to be over like now now. Quick! But don't worry too much. Focus on the positive and just remember to breathe, zikir, breathe, zikir...
I read like gazillion blogs and medical websites to learn about the procedures and how it would feel, but trust me, it was really easy breezy. Sure it was a bit uncomfortable but just relax follow the procedure and it will be over before you know it. And it was true it did feel like period cramp. Once it was completed we went back home but we had to come back by 2pm to see the doctor for our consultation. Already we were a bit relieved because we had gotten back the x-ray in the morning from imaging department and the result was already there, stated on the report that my Fallopian tubes were functioning well with no abnormalities. Alhamdulillah.
At 2 pm, we went to see our doctor, Dato Dr Siti, boy we had to wait for soooo long. And here I thought that maybe because on Monday she only had patients in the afternoon, that there will be less people around..but I was wrong.
Dr Siti was happy with the result and told us we can proceed with IUI the next cycle. I was fine with the plan thinking that we could well try to conceive on our own for this month since ovulation will be in few more days..who knows we might get lucky. However, she said please try to refrain from having any unprotected sex until the next cycle. I was like what?!?! but I read like a gazillion blog and websites saying it would be OK.
So, we went home, sleep a night and rest for the day. We did not think too much of what Dr Siti said and will rely on our own instinct to just go for it.

What are the risks and complications of HSG?
HSG is considered a very safe procedure. However, there is a set of recognized complications, some serious, which occur less than 1% of the time.
- Infection - The most common serious problem with HSG is pelvic infection. This usually occurs when a woman has had previous tubal disease (such as a past infection of chlamydia). In rare cases, infection can damage the fallopian tubes or make it necessary to remove them. A woman should call her doctor if she experiences increasing pain or a fever within 1-2 days of the HSG.
- Fainting - Rarely, the woman may get light-headed during or shortly after the procedure.
- Radiation Exposure - Radiation exposure from an HSG is very low, less than with a kidney or bowel study. This exposure has not been shown to cause harm, even if a woman conceives later the same month. The HSG should not be done if pregnancy is suspected.
- Iodine Allergy - Rarely, a woman may have an allergy to the iodine contrast used in HSG. A woman should inform her doctor if she is allergic to iodine, intravenous contrast dyes, or seafood. Women who are allergic to iodine should have the HSG procedure performed without an iodine-containing contrast solution. If a woman experiences a rash, itching, or swelling after the procedure, she should contact her doctor.
- Spotting - Spotting sometimes occurs for 1-2 days after HSG. Unless instructed otherwise, a woman should notify her doctor if she experiences heavy bleeding after HSG.
So that's about it, what to expect this month.. just keep swimming.Well if it does not happen this month, at least we got IUI to look forward to. I am just worried that if IUI do not succeed, what would be next? How devastated we will be? Financially, we are not ready for IVF. So lets not think about that just yet. We go one STEP at a TIME..shall we
